Canvas VS Paper Prints: What's the best option for you?
Quality
Both canvas and paper are printed with the world's best archival grade materials and pigments that accurately represent the colour and detail of the original painting.
Style
Paper: More modern and contemporary look.
Canvas: More traditional feel that looks like the original.
Texture
Paper: Medium watercolour paper feel, uncoated.
Canvas: Classic canvas texture, matte varnish protection.
Framing Options
Paper: Best protected in a glass or plaxiglass frame. You can find commonly found frame sizes from 16X20” to 24X36” to frame yourself or purchase an already framed print in glass from my shop in those same sizes.
Canvas: You can stretch the rolled canvas option over bars yourself or take to your local art framer or buy our already stretched & white oak framed option for the original look. Does not require glass.
Framing Cost
Paper: Expensive for larger sizes (30X30" and up) as custom framing and glass is required but frames size 16X20" up to 24X36" can be commonly found at stores like IKEA, Opposite Wall, or The Poster Store.
Canvas: Cheaper than paper to frame larger sizes as no glass is required and you can stretch over bars yourself or pay your local framer roughly $75-$200 to stretch it for you.
Summary
If your budget is small:
If you want a statement piece, you'll get the best value with a large canvas in a roll and stretch yourself or bring it to your local framer to stretch it (usually $75-$200 depending on the framer)
If you want a smaller print you'll get the best value with paper as inexpensive plexiglass frames are commonly found for sizes 16X20” to 24X36” at IKEA, Opposite Wall, Amazon etc. or you can level up the presentation with a real glass frame from the print shop in those same sizes.
If your budget is big:
Go for the look and feel you want and whatever size is best for your space. Paper is has a more contemporary/modern look and should be behind glass while canvas is more traditional and has the same matte look as my originals that are stretched over bars and framed in white oak.
